Hi Everyone,  These are the questions I get asked most often.  I'll keep adding as I get more, or as I remember them!    Lisa

Waxing  Questions:

Q.  How long does hair have to be to be waxed?

 A.  1/2 inch or longer.  Usually that is 2 to 3 weeks of growth. You should be able to pinch it between your fingertips.  If you are getting a bikini wax, and the hair is much longer than 1/2 inch, please trim it.  It will make you much more comfortable during the wax.

Q.  Will the hair grow back thicker?

A.  No.  That is a common misconception.  It's been shown that consistent waxing will thin the hair over time.

Q.  Can I tan before my appointment?

A.  No.  We recommend no tanning 24 hours before or 24 hours after your appointment.  Waxing can exfoliate skin exposing baby skin cells to harmful UV rays causing damage.

Q.  Are there any medications that if I'm on them I can't get waxed?

A.  YES!  If you are on Accutane (for acne) or any sort of blood thinner you cannot be waxed until 6-12 months after you've stopped the medication.  If you are using a Retin A topical (prescription for faces usually) then you cannot be waxed in the areas that you apply it to.

Q.  I would like to try a bikini wax or brazilian.  What can I expect?

A.  I do lots and lots of first time brazillians!  You can expect a private, confidential appointment in a relaxed, clean atmosphere.  You will fill out a form (all first time clients do), that will help me determine what your skin's needs are.  We will talk for a few minutes before the service, because, geez it's a private service and you don't know me from Adam, so I would like you to feel like you're in a safe place and ask any question you need to.  I will then step out to let you disrobe, and get under the covers before I knock to come back in.   When I come back in will get started, and you are in charge!  If at anytime you decide you don't want to go with the full brazillian, we will adjust!  Throughout the service, I promise we will talk, giggle at times, and try to make it "the most positive experience it could be under the circumstances"  as one recent client said.

Q.  I want to schedule a brazillian.  How do you get the hair way, way down there?

A.  Some salons will have you turn over and get on all fours to wax that area.  I don't like that approach.  I have you lift your leg, (like a pilates pose, I've been told).  It's actually a nice stretch!  It you are concerned about hair that I may miss with that approach (rarely happens) then I will have you turn on your side.

Q.  How often should I get waxed?

A.  That's really up to what you're goals are.  Some clients come every 3 to 4 weeks to maintain their wax and to not deal with shaving bumps.  Others I see before their vacations or big events.

Q.  How long does it last?

A.  Everyone is alittle different, usually you can count on 2 to 3 weeks.  The new growth hair that you will start to feel is NOT the hair that was waxed.  The waxed hair will be gone for 8 plus weeks.  That's why we recommend coming every 3-4    weeks if you want to maintain your wax, so each stage of hair growth gets waxed.

Q.  I'm going on vacation, when should I schedule my wax?

A.  2 to 3 days before your trip is best.  That will give you a truely "worry free" vacation.

Q.  Will I get a rash or irritation?

A.  Not likely, but red bumps occasionally appear.  Usually they go away within 24 hours.  I use hydrocortisone after a wax to soothe and calm your skin, if I feel like you may have a challenge.

Q.  What kind of wax do you use?

A.  I use strip wax and stripless wax (sometimes called hard or cold wax).  I will use the wax that is appropriate for your skin and hair.  My goal is always comfort, and results!

Q.  Do you double dip sticks?

A.  I NEVER double dip the applicators.  The wax is not hot enough to kill microorganisms, so to protect you everytime wax is applied, it's with a clean applicator.

Q.  Should I shower before my appointment?

A.  It's not necessary, unless it will make you feel more comfortable.

Q.  What will help ease the discomfort?

A.  Women are typically more sensitive just before, during and right after their period.  Some clients take an ibuprofen or over the counter pain medication 30 min before their appointment.
